The ninth annual Muskoka Pride Picnic is an event to celebrate the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) community in Muskoka and to build awareness.  This is a free event with food, beverages, games, vendors, and information booths.  This year we are featuring live music from local band The Dirty Little Swing Thing and a beer garden from Sawdust City Brewery.

Muskoka Turtle Blitz
Muskoka Turtle Blitz on July 23rd from 10am to 1pm at the Johnston's Cranberry Marsh. Do you love turtles? Then this event is for you! The 3rd annual Muskoka Turtle Blitz will be hosted at Johnston's Cranberry Marsh in Bala. There will be live turtles, a green screen photo opportunity, and cash bbq lunch.This event is to engage the community (of all ages) by inviting them to get out and find turtles with us. By doing so, they will be helping us with our research! Field technicians will be present all day to answer any questions the public has about turtles in Muskoka. Gardening for Wildlife Workshop
When: Thursday August 10, 2017 | 6 pm to 8 pm

$35 per participant with all proceeds going to the Muskoka Conservancy

Grow wild and think beyond a pollinator patch or songbird garden. This workshop will take an ecosystem approach to gardening with a focus on plant selection, design techniques and maintenance must do's and don'ts.

The workshop will begin with a basic introduction into native plants and a tour of the Hidden Habitat gardens and meadows in the making.

In the workshop participants will:

learn about the basic necessities of wildlife, focusing on songbirds and pollinators learn which plants are the most productive and create the most wildlife interactions learn the do's and don'ts of how to maintain a wildlife garden learn simple garden design principles that will ensure your garden is eye-catching all year long leave excited about starting your own wildlife garden shop for Muskoka grown Ontario native plants Workshop will be held partially outdoors and hands on so please dress for the weather and for the garden. A handout will be provided but note taking and photos are welcome throughout the workshop.


Parkinson Super Walk
Date & Time: September 9. Check-in at 10:30AM, Walk begins at 11:00AM Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease that affects approximately 100,000 Canadians and their 400,000 family members, loved ones and care partners. Parkinson Canada will be holding its annual Parkinson SuperWalk to raise money for those affected by Parkinson's.  Your support is needed to ensure better treatment and ultimately a future without Parkinson's. Join us for a walk and a day of fun for people of all ages! Most importantly, join us for your chance to change the course of Parkinson's in Canada.

Honey Harbour Canada Day Festival

Winderemere Terry Fox Run
Sept 18 from 9-12. The Winderemere Terry Fox Run will be held on Sept 18 from 9-12. The past 15 years have brought out the true spirit of the Windermere citizens as they rally behind the Terry Fox Foundation and they plan to continue on with the tradition in 2016. The run route is 10km in length and participants can walk, bike, job or wheelchair the event. The course will begin at Windermere Village Park. The road will not be closed but signage and volunteers will be used to warn drivers. After the run there will be a BBQ with a live band in the Windermere Village Park from 11am-2pm.

Native Plant Seeding Workshop
October 22, 2016. 1pm to 4pm, Hidden Habitat is hosting a fall native plant seeding workshop. The workshop will begin with a basic introduction into native plant gardening and plant selection and a tour the Hidden Habitat gardens in the making. In the workshop participants will: ~ learn which plants are ideal to grow from seed ~ learn how and when to seed a variety of Ontario native grasses and wildflower seeds ~ learn how and when to collect seeds from your own garden ~learn how to save and properly store your seeds ~learn the benefits and drawbacks to direct seeding outdoors vs. germinating indoors ~ learn methods of seed preparation such as cold moist stratification and seed scarification. ~enjoy warming beverages and light refreshments around an open fire ~leave excited about the possibilities in your own garden Workshop will be outdoors and hands on so please dress for the weather and for the garden.
